Rhinoplasty Simulation Software: How 3D Simulation Works and What It Can Predict

How rhinoplasty simulation software turns a 3D facial scan into a surgical plan, which measurements it produces, and what a simulation can and cannot promise a patient.

Rhinoplasty Simulation Software: How 3D Simulation Works and What It Can Predict

Rhinoplasty simulation software is 3D planning software that converts a scan of the patient's face into an editable model, lets the surgeon change the nasal shape on screen, and shows the expected appearance next to the original. It supports the consultation and the surgical plan. It is not a guarantee of the final result.

How Does Rhinoplasty Simulation Work?

The process has four steps: capture a 3D scan of the face, detect anatomical landmarks, edit the nose (dorsum, tip, radix, nostrils) on the 3D model, and compare the simulated result with the original. With Kratos 3D the scan is captured on a smartphone in about 20 seconds and opened in the desktop planning software.

Which Measurements Matter for Planning?

  • Naso-frontal angle (nasion region profile)
  • Naso-facial angle (nasal dorsum relative to the facial plane)
  • Naso-labial angle (tip rotation)
  • Tip projection and deviation
  • Dorsal height
  • Ricketts E-line (relationship of nose and lips to the profile line)

A tool that only renders a preview image cannot support these decisions. Look for numeric outputs you can record in the patient file.

What Can a Simulation Not Predict?

Healing, swelling, skin thickness and cartilage behavior vary between patients. A simulation shows a planned shape, not the exact result months after surgery. Surgeons should explain this to patients and avoid presenting the preview as a promise.

Why Do Subcutaneous Structures Matter?

The skin envelope follows the cartilage and bone beneath it. The Kratos Anatomy module estimates these structures from the scan so the surgeon can reason about what a change will require. The estimates support planning and do not replace CT or physical examination.

Does the Patient Need to Visit the Clinic First?

With smartphone scanning, patients can send a scan before the appointment. This shortens the first visit and supports remote second opinions.

Summary

  • Rhinoplasty simulation software is a planning and communication tool.
  • Prefer software that outputs real angles and distances.
  • Treat the simulation as a plan, not a promise.
  • Check hardware needs, offline use, export options and data protection (KVKK and GDPR).
